What to Expect When Staying at the Bissell House

PAYMENT: Reservations are confirmed upon receipt of your deposit, a one night deposit for one night's stay or up to 100% of your total reservation for longer stays. This may appear as two separate charges on your credit card statement. Any remaining balance will be collected prior to arrival. All rate are based upon double occupancy. Additional persons, will be charged additional fees. Children up to the age of 12 that share an existing bed will not be charged. We do not accept cash payments or offer hourly rates. In addition, we require a security deposit and valid photo id upon arrival.

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT: Check-in time is from 3-7pm. Check out time is 11am. As we are not a hotel, and thus do not have 24 hour check in capability, we offer early and/or late check in with an additional $15 per hour fee as follows- beginning at 1pm for early check in and as late as 9pm for late check in. Both will require payment at time of booking. We cannot guarantee an earlier or later check in than these posted times. Please respect quiet hours between 10pm and 7am.

LUGGAGE: As we are a bed and breakfast inn and not a hotel, please note that there is no bellhop on the premises to assist with luggage. Currently, all guest rooms are on the second and third floor. There is no elevator.

PARKING: One parking space onsite is included in your reservation. Currently, due to mandatory regulated watering restrictions, please inquire when you arrive at the property as to predicted watering times, so as to avoid hard water spots on your car. We do our best to avoid high traffic times, but we are limited by the city requirements on this issue. Typically, the watering occurs 2x per week. If you drive an oversize vehicle please call us as you may need to park on the south side of Columbia Street in front of our house as it may be too large to make the turns in our narrow driveway and two porte cocheres, without damage to your vehicle or our property.

BREAKFAST: With the exception of  New Year's Day (where we offer a grab and go to the parade option) we provide a 9am seated ovo-lacto vegetarian (eggs and dairy but no meat) hot breakfast in the dining room where Albert Einstein was once feted by Anna Bissell McKay. Self serve continental breakfast is available for early risers by advance RSVP. Please confirm your breakfast plans with us upon arrival so we can be prepared and reduce waste. Additional breakfasts are $25 per person and require 24 hour advance request if you wish to have a family member of friend join you. We cannot guarantee accommodation, especially on weekends when we are often sold out.

DESSERT TEA: Also included is our round-the-clock afternoon tea table with organic loose leaf tea bar, a tea dessert treat set out daily mid to late afternoon in our spacious downstairs living room parlor and adjacent library which you can either enjoy there or outdoors in our gardens and grounds. Friends and family may also join you for our self serve teatime for additional rates of  $6.00 per person with 24 hour advance notice to the inn.

REFRESHMENT IN ROOMS: Please treat our home as you would your own.  We are an independent small business. Spills are costly and time intensive to rectify. No cooking of any kind is allowed in any of the rooms. We also ask that you do not consume red wine in the guest rooms. A fee will be assessed for any extraordinary cleaning charges.

INTERNET: We have complimentary wifi capability throughout the house and grounds. We will provide you with the password when you arrive.

PLUMBING: Victorian Era pipes were smaller in diameter than modern day ones. For this reason, we request you please refrain from use anything other than toilet paper in the toilet. In other words, please do not dispose of  Kleenex, Q tips, flushable wipes, feminine hygiene products, matchsticks or dental floss in the toilets and instead use the trash bin next to it. Thank you.

CHILDREN: For safety reasons and as a courtesy to fellow guests, we ask that parents be attentive to their children's conduct. Children must be monitored and attended to. At no time should children ever be left alone at any time, indoors or out. We also have a no running, no screaming, no banging on the piano policy inside the house.

GRATUITY: Many people inquire as to etiquette surrounding the topic of tipping. Tipping is optional but appreciated by our hard working housekeepers. Please know that your room attendants vary from day to day. Tips are not pooled.

PETS: While we wish we could, we are sorry but we cannot accept pets. We make up for this by supporting animal welfare work both personally and professionally. From time to time we may have a visiting family member's hypoallergenic pet on site. If this is a concern for you please let us know prior to making your reservation. Service animals are of course always welcome but please note this does not include non service animals.

NO SMOKING OR BURNING: We are a completely non-smoking inn for health and fire safety purposes, among other factors. This includes all tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and similar devices, medical and recreational marijuana, as well as the lighting, burning, or combustion of any substance, including but not limited to, incense and any plant material. If you smoke, we ask that you do so street side so as to not impact other guests. A guest who violates this policy, or allows a non-guest to violate the policy will automatically be charged a minimum fee of $400 to return the room or space to a non-smoking condition. Any violation of this policy will be cause for immediate eviction, and there will no refund. Any guest who violates this policy will remain personally liable for $400 fee if the guests payment card is declined.
